Study Guide for the BLS CPR Written Test
Do you not like taking tests? The American Heart Association BLS CPR class in San Mateo County has a small exam at the end of the training which has 25 questions. It is a good idea to spend a few minutes to prepare for this written test. Students must receive an 84% or better to pass this course, so please view our videos and review below. Good luck.
CPR Ratio – Single Rescuer
- Adults: 30 compressions & 2 breaths
- Children: 30 compressions & 2 breaths
- Babies: 30 compressions & 2 breaths
CPR Ratio – Two Rescuer
- Adults: 30 compressions & 2 breaths
- Children: 15 compressions & 2 breaths
- Babies: 15 compressions & 2 breaths
Rescue Breathing – has a pulse but not breathing
- Adults: 1 breath every 5-6 seconds
- Children: 1 breath every 3-5 seconds
- Babies: 1 breath every 3-5 seconds
- Advanced Airway: 1 breath every 6-8 seconds
Bag Valve Masks and Pocket Masks
Bag valve masks are best to use for 2 person CPR, and pocket masks are best for single rescuer CPR.
Choking for an Adult or a Child
- Perform abdominal thrusts with quick upward movements just above the navel.
- Continue until object is removed or victim passes out.
- If victim becomes unconscious, start CPR.
Choking for an Infant
- Perform 5 back blows and 5 chest thrusts
- Continue until object is removed or baby passes out.
- If baby becomes unconscious, start CPR.
